    The beach and the seafront promenade

    Step out of the hotel and you are on the sand in a few minutes. Almost five kilometres of beach stretch between the Llobregat Delta and the Garraf hills, with a flat promenade for walking, running or cycling.

    Paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing

    Right on the beach there are schools where you can rent a paddle board or a kayak, or join a windsurfing, catamaran or kitesurfing course, also for children. Kitesurfers have a regulated area on La Pineda beach in summer.

    Castelldefels Castle

    From the top of the hill, the castle has watched over the town and the sea since the 10th century. Inside is the church of Santa Maria, and its rooms tell a thousand years of history, from pirate raids to its restoration in the late 19th century. Visit it with an audio guide or on a guided tour, also in English.

    Beach and sea

    Port Ginesta marina

    At the end of the beach, where the Garraf hills begin, lies Port Ginesta. A stroll among the boats at sunset is a quiet plan, and there are restaurants for lunch or dinner overlooking the harbour. Boat rentals and sailing or catamaran trips leave from here.

  5. Sport

    The Olympic Canal of Catalonia

    Olympic canoe races were held here in 1992, and today the canal is open to everyone. Try wakeboarding on the cable ski or take out a paddle board or a kayak, while in summer children have an inflatable water park and a pool. On land there is archery and pitch & putt.

  6. Day trip

    Barcelona by train

    Leave the car at the hotel and take the train to Barcelona. Passeig de Gràcia station is just steps from Casa Batlló, and a short walk takes you on to La Pedrera. At the end of the day, you come back to rest by the sea.

    Getting there walk to Platja de Castelldefels station (approx. 18 min) and take the R2 Sud train: Sants, approx. 30-35 min; Passeig de Gràcia, approx. 40 min.

    Sitges

    A short train ride away, Sitges welcomes you with its old town, the church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla overlooking the sea and a lively promenade. The Cau Ferrat, painter Santiago Rusiñol’s home and studio, and the Maricel Museum are well worth a visit.

    Getting there walk to Platja de Castelldefels station (approx. 18 min) and take the R2 Sud train, approx. 7 min. By car, approx. 20 min.

  8. Culture

    Park Güell

    Gaudí turned this Barcelona hillside into a park, with the salamander on the main staircase as its emblem. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Gaudí lived here for almost twenty years, in the house that is now a museum. Tickets for the Monumental Zone are sold in advance, online.

    Casa Batlló

    Right on Passeig de Gràcia, Casa Batlló is one of the Gaudí houses listed as UNESCO World Heritage. The visit takes just over an hour, with the museum’s official app. If you would like to see it after dark, there are night visits with a welcome drink and concerts on the rooftop.

    La Pedrera (Casa Milà)

    Gaudí’s Casa Milà, known as La Pedrera, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. The visit takes you through the courtyards, the apartment, the attic and the rooftop. For a plan for two, there are sunset tickets and a night experience.

    L’Aquàrium de Barcelona

    In Port Vell, right by the sea, the aquarium has one area for the Mediterranean and another for tropical seas, as well as the Oceanarium. Younger children have their own zone, Explora. It opens every day of the year, so it also works on a rainy day.

    Garraf Natural Park

    A few minutes from the hotel, the Garraf hills begin: a limestone landscape of dwarf palms overlooking the Mediterranean. The park has signposted walking trails, some of them adapted, and the park office will help you choose one. Bring water and comfortable shoes.

    Horse riding in Gavà

    In Gavà’s farming park, Hípica Gavamar runs horse rides. The one-hour ride goes at a walk along inland paths, designed for first-timers and families with children. The two-hour ride crosses the farmland and enters the Gavà pine woods, close to the sea.

    Indoor padel at Padelarium

    Between Castelldefels and Gavà, Padelarium has ten indoor padel courts, so you can play even when it rains. Book a court through the Playtomic app, and if you have not brought a racket, you can rent the gear there. They also give lessons for adults and children.

  15. Beach and sea

    Try scuba diving in Garraf

    Between Castelldefels and Sitges, the Garraf coastline is rocky with clear water. Lassdive runs try-dive sessions from its centre in Garraf harbour, entering the sea at Cala del Bou. They provide all the gear; you bring a swimsuit and a towel.

    Birdwatching in the Delta: El Remolar-Filipines

    Between Castelldefels and the airport lies a quiet corner of the Llobregat Delta. A flat path of just over a kilometre and a half runs around the Remolar lagoon and the Filipines marshes, with towers and hides for birdwatching. It is wheelchair accessible and easy with children.

    Gavà Prehistoric Mines

    Some 6,000 years ago, Neolithic people dug tunnels here to extract variscite, a stone they used for jewellery. These are the oldest gallery mines in Europe, and at the archaeological park you can walk into a recreated mine. It is a visit for all ages, with an accessible route.

    Viladecans The Style Outlets

    Ten minutes from the hotel there is an outlet centre with fashion and sports brand stores at reduced prices. It is a good plan for an afternoon of shopping, or for a day when the weather does not help.

    On the beach road in El Prat there are several viewpoints where you can watch the planes arriving at the airport, up close. Signs help you identify each aircraft. It is an unusual plan, also with children.

    Gaudí Crypt at Colònia Güell

    Before the Sagrada Família, Gaudí tested his ideas here, in the church of the Colònia Güell. The crypt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Gaudí himself called it a model of the Sagrada Família. Take time to wander the streets of the colony too.

    Montjuïc: the castle and the MNAC

    From the terrace of Montjuïc Castle you can see the city, the port, the sea and the Baix Llobregat coast. Further down, in the Palau Nacional built for the 1929 Exhibition, the National Art Museum of Catalonia holds Catalan art and has its own viewing terrace.

    The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc

    On Montjuïc, the Magic Fountain was built for the 1929 Exhibition and today combines water, light, colour and music. Before you go, check the show days and times on the City Council website.

    La Boqueria market

    Right on La Rambla, La Boqueria has more than two hundred stalls of fruit, vegetables, meat and seafood. Records of meat being sold here go back to 1217, and the iron and glass roof dates from 1914.

    The Barça Museum and Spotify Camp Nou

    If you support Barça, or travel with someone who does, this is where the club museum is, next to the stadium. While work on the new Spotify Camp Nou continues, the club offers several visits, from the museum with an audio guide to tours that go inside the stadium.     Barcelona’s science museum has a surprising corner: the Flooded Forest, a piece of Amazon rainforest with caimans, fish, tropical birds and plants. It opens all year round and is an ideal plan for a rainy day with children.

    Inside Parc de la Ciutadella, the zoo combines seeing the animals with family activities and talks with the keepers. Before you go, check its website for which areas are open, as improvements are under way.

    High above Barcelona, Tibidabo turns 125 in 2026, with rides for the whole family and a viewpoint over the city. To get up there, besides the car, there is the Cuca de Llum funicular and the Tibibus.

    Turó de la Rovira (the Carmel bunkers)

    This 262-metre hill gives you a 360-degree view over Barcelona. In 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, an anti-aircraft battery was built here, and the Barcelona History Museum looks after its remains. It is a quiet plan for two, with the city at your feet.

    On Carrer de Montcada, five Gothic palaces house the reference collection for Picasso’s formative years and his bond with Barcelona. Afterwards, Carrer de Montcada and the Born district invite you to keep wandering.

    Palau de la Música Catalana

    Domènech i Montaner built it in 1908 for the Orfeó Català choir, and it is the only concert hall listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can see it by day on a guided tour, in several languages, or come to an evening concert and hear it as it was meant to be heard.

    Built for the 1929 Exhibition, it brings together on Montjuïc more than a hundred full-size buildings from villages all over Spain. Among its streets and squares you will find craftspeople at work, contemporary art and family activities.

    Golf at Club de Golf Terramar

    Next to Sitges, Club de Golf Terramar has an 18-hole course open to visitors, plus a driving range and a putting green. To play you need to book, bring a valid licence and follow golf dress code.

    Cycling the Costas del Garraf road

    If you travel with your road bike, the Garraf coast is well known to cyclists. The CPB9 route on Catalonia’s official tourism website links Sitges and Castelldefels along the coast and climbs Rat Penat, inside Garraf Natural Park. It has featured in many professional races and has serious gradients: it is for experienced legs.

    In an old locomotive depot, with its roundhouse and 23-metre turntable, the museum gathers 54 vehicles, including 25 steam locomotives. There is an audio guide with a route for children and families. Afterwards you can stroll around Vilanova i la Geltrú.

    Cava in the Penedès: Codorníu

    In Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the Codorníu cellars were designed by modernista architect Puig i Cadafalch. Visits are guided, take you through the cellars on a little train, past the gardens and the museum, and end with a tasting.

    Montserrat

    The mountain of Montserrat is home to a Benedictine monastery with more than a thousand years of history and to La Moreneta, the Virgin of Montserrat. Go up by rack railway or the Aeri cable car, listen to the Escolania boys’ choir, and carry on by funicular to Sant Joan, at about a thousand metres, or to the Santa Cova.

    Roman Tarragona

    Ancient Tarraco has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. Walk the Roman walls, the circus where chariot races were held and the amphitheatre, where gladiators fought. There are guided tours, some of them at night.

    Next to Salou, PortAventura World brings together three parks: PortAventura Park, with six themed worlds and rides for all the family; Ferrari Land, devoted to the Italian racing team; and the Caribe Aquatic Park water park. It is a full day out, so set off early.

    La Roca Village

    North of Barcelona, La Roca Village brings together more than 150 brand boutiques with reduced prices all year round. If you would rather not drive, the Shopping Express bus leaves from Barcelona’s Estació del Nord and takes you straight to the Village.
